7 Day Itinerary
7 Day Itinerary
The following 7-day itineraries are example options offered by Chilkoot High Adventure Base. We are happy to structure a custom adventure to fit your troop’s specific goals.
Option 1: Backpacking • Rafting • Sea Kayaking
Day 0 – Travel to Haines
Chilkoot High Adventure Base is located on the Haines Peninsula, surrounded by fjords, temperate rainforest, and glacier views. This base serves as the ideal launch point for multi-day backcountry expeditions.
Days 1–3 – Backpacking
The expedition begins in the Yukon Territory, home to some of the wildest landscapes in North America. Scouts will trek through alpine terrain where glacial rivers carve wide valleys and wildlife is abundant. Participants learn essential backcountry travel and navigation skills while immersed in dramatic mountain scenery. On the final night, we’ll camp near the trailhead to prepare for the rafting segment.
Day 4 – Whitewater Rafting
After breaking down camp, we’ll travel farther into Canada for a day on the Blanchard River. The group will be led by our regional outfitter partner, Tatshenshini Expediting, with Chilkoot guides accompanying the trip. Following a comprehensive safety briefing and paddling instruction, we’ll run a fun, approachable stretch of whitewater where gentle drops build into lively rapids as the Blanchard joins the Tatshenshini River. That evening, we’ll return to Haines to prepare for the final leg of the adventure.
Days 5–6 – Sea Kayaking
The trip concludes with a two-day paddle on the Lynn Canal—the deepest fjord in North America. In double kayaks, scouts will work as teams to explore the wild coastline and set up wilderness camps along pristine beaches. Wildlife sightings may include sea lions, porpoises, humpback whales, bald eagles, and more, all framed by towering peaks and glaciers.

Option 2: Mountaineering • Sea Kayaking
Day 0 – Travel to Haines
Chilkoot High Adventure Base is the staging point for all expeditions, offering easy access to both alpine and coastal adventure.
Days 1–3 – Mountaineering
We’ll depart Haines early and travel across the border to a small alpine corridor in British Columbia. Here, scouts establish an alpine base camp with direct access to rugged peaks, glaciated terrain, and technical climbing routes. Under the guidance of expert instructors, participants develop mountaineering and expedition travel skills while summiting nearby objectives and practicing ice and rock techniques.
Days 4–6 – Sea Kayaking
We’ll transition from the alpine to the sea, launching on the Lynn Canal for a two-day coastal paddle. Scouts will travel in double kayaks, working as teams to reach remote wilderness camps along the fjord. Encounters with sea lions, porpoises, humpback whales, and bald eagles are possible, with snow-capped peaks rising steeply from the water.
Day 7 – Depart / Travel Home
