Mt. Kilimanjaro
MT. KILIMANJARO
10 Days
Climb the highest mountain in Africa with Chilkoot High Adventure Base. This unforgettable expedition takes scouts to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro—one of the famed Seven Summits—via the scenic Machame Route. This route offers exceptional views, a variety of ecosystems, and the chance to complete a non-technical high-altitude climb with strong acclimatization built into the itinerary. We ascend the Machame Route and descend by the standard route, avoiding the busiest sections of the mountain and giving scouts a rewarding wilderness experience.
Our program is designed for a positive, well-paced high-altitude experience, increasing the likelihood of success and ensuring participants feel strong on summit day.

SAFETY
Your safety is our top priority. International Wilderness Leadership School and Chilkoot High Adventure Base have an excellent long-term safety record based on strong risk management practices, experienced leadership, and robust medical support.
Satellite phones carried on all trips
Pulse oximeters, stethoscopes, and full expedition medical kits
Portable hyperbaric chamber on all Kilimanjaro climbs
Highly trained U.S. and local guides with extensive high-altitude experience
Our approach is based on decades of guiding at altitude, and no other program exceeds our level of preparation and emergency response capability.
TRIP LENGTH
All Kilimanjaro climbs spend 7–8 days on the mountain, including a rest and acclimatization day at approximately 14,000 feet. This crucial day allows scouts to adjust to the altitude and maximize summit success.
PORTERS
Local porters support every climb, carrying the bulk of the gear. Scouts carry only a light daypack with essentials such as water, extra layers, snacks, and a camera—making the trek more enjoyable and summit day significantly easier.
MOSHI
Our expedition begins and ends in Moshi, a vibrant town on the flanks of Kilimanjaro. It’s the perfect place to prepare for the climb and relax afterward.
KILIMANJARO’S CRATER
On summit day, we’ll traverse the spectacular crater rim, with panoramic views of glaciers inside the crater and down the Machame and Shira routes—a highlight of the entire climb.
